Craftsman 1/2 HP Garage Opener Model 139.18453DM (Unit run front & back only for 2 seconds)?
I want to test Craftsman 1/2 HP Garage Door Opener Model 139.18453DM without proper installation (Without Hanging opener, just Tring test on Floor).
The problem I’m having is that when I run the opener, the sprocket will make a clockwise cycle for 2 seconds (or 4″ distance) but will immediately do a counter-clockwise cycle in the same distance.
I’ve done it without the chain and with the chain (Without Hanging opener) and it’s the exact same thing either way.
The unit moves a few inches cloclwise and then back to where it started from. Nothing is obstructing the sensors because the lights glow steadily and when I deliberately stepped into the sensor, the lights do blink.
Following things I’ve already done:
1. Installed Standard Control Console (Door control button)
2. Both sensor connected with unit and operational (Indicator lights glow steadilt)
3. I tried adjusting the force and amount of travel but nothing happens.

Take the cover off of the opener (unplugged of course) & see if the round black cap (revolution counter cup w/ notches in the side) is seated properly on the end of the motor shaft.
It creates a timing circuit by passing between the diodes on the revolution counter board (small board on motor bracket). If the cup is seated properly the rev counter board may be bad and/or the main logic board also.
They run exactly 4″ in both directions when the timing function is not working properly.
The timing function gives the opener the capability of reversing when closing or stops when opening. When it meets an obstruction the motor slows down, the timing slows down, & the opener reacts.
FYI. The sensors don’t affect the open cycle at all, only the close side. So if it won’t open it isn’t the sensors causing it.
